Week of Jan. 23 thru Feb. 3rd
Reading: We have completed the first half of the basal reading series, Treasures. This week I will be assessing various skills the children have been taught in this first part of the series. The week of Jan 30th we will begin the second half of the basal with the African folktale "Seven Spools of Thread."
Language Arts: We have finished our Owl Moon letters and will be sharing them with our classmates. The children had lots of fun illustrating scenes from the book with "snow paint." Also, we have written book reviews on favorite stories from our reading book. Next week we will be responding to our pen pal letters.
Spelling: The week of Jan. 23rd the students will be tested on the first part of the core list.
Math: The students are doing very well mastering their multiplication facts. Next week we will begin division as the inverse operation of multiplication. The focus will be on fact families and how the multiplication and division facts are related. Please encourage the children to use the attached web sites to reinforce skills.
Science: We are continuing Chapter 8 and are finishing up the phases of the moon. I hope the children are getting the chance to look at the moon in the night sky and discover the various phases. The next full moon can be seen on February 7th.

Special Announcements:
Please encourage the children to have a book for Accelerated Reader. Many of them select books, but do not follow through with reading and taking tests.
The student of the week projects have been very enjoyable. Please let me know if you need another schedule for your child's upcoming project.
