5th Grade:
In 5th grade ACE class the students work in groups that represent a bridge building company.
The students learn to use mechanical drawing instruments to design the perfect truss that will hold the most load.
The project not only teaches the students what it takes to build a strong structure but also reinforces their math and problem solving skills. Each student has a specific job: Architect, accountant, transportation cheif, and project director. Everyone is a carpenter and helps to build a truss bridge. The companies are given a budget of $1,950,000. to build the strongest bridge within a budget. Then, the students will load test their truss bridges.

6th Grade:
In 6th grade ACE the students learn what it takes to become a successful inventor.
This project was designed to help students learn and apply creative, problem-solving skills using the engineering design process. The children developed these skills by creating their own inventions to solve everyday problems. The ability to think beyond common solutions and answers is very important in today’s increasingly complex, highly competitive, technological world. Inventing has offered the children a hands-on opportunity to develop these important skills.
The groups will keep an inventor's journal, create a model to demonstrate how the invention will work and make a back drop to support their invention. We will present to the sixth grade students and teachers at the end of each marking period. There will be an Invention Convention in June and awards will be given.
1st Marking period Inventions

The Uncuttables
This invention solves a problem for beauticians and beauty school students. The problem is cutting your index and middle fingers with scissors, on your non-dominate hand while giving a haircut.

The Easy Lifter
The problem we solved is taking your heavy laundry baskets up and down the stairs.
The Easy Lifter has a track that installs above your stair molding and a laundry basket that has wheels that insert into the track. The laundry basket rides up or down on the track, using a remote control.

THE MAGIC AIR.
Solves the problem of moldy air in your house
The magic air is an air purifier that works by sucking in the moldy air. The air goes through a special filter and flows out pure and fresh. This invention is especially useful to people who have been hit by the resent flood.
THE HAIR CATCHER
The product solves the problem of hair falling down people’s neck, back, and on the floor during a haircut.
The Hair Catcher is a tray with a vacuum tube that attaches around the neck of the person getting a haircut. Once the hair falls into the tray the vacuum sucks it into a tube.

Marigold Spray
Marigold spray solves the problem of bugs, deer, and animals eating your plants, vegetables, and shrubs.
The invention solves the problem by using the scent of marigold petals to keep the bugs away, and the scent of human hair to keep the deer and animals away.

7th Grade Roller Coaster Project
Another 7th grade project: The physics of roller coasters. We will use a hands on approach for testing the principals of physics that not only make roller coasters thrilling, but also safe.
The students will design a new roller coaster for Dorney Park that will attract roller coaster riders from around the world.
A model will be built using foam pipe insulation and a marble will represent the car. Students will use their math skills to calulate speed and forces of their roller coaster.
