Buckets for Buckets – 7th Grade Service Learning Event

HTSD School News

The 7th grade students are organizing an event to raise funds that will be used to drill wells to provide villages in Southern Sudan with clean water.  In the past five events, the seventh grade has been able to raise $10,550 to purchase mosquito prevention nets, a water harvesting system, latrines, medical supplies, and refurbish classrooms for school children in Kampala, Uganda.

Water for South Sudan, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded by Salva Dut. The students have read the book on his life (A Long Walk to Water) and the struggles that he faced as a lost boy in Sudan. Many hardships were created due to the diseases caused by drinking contaminated water. For more information, please visit the site: www.waterforsouthsudan.org.

The 7th grade students will be gathering sponsors for the Buckets for Buckets event from March 18th to April 6th. They will then have an event on April 15th when they will shoot basketballs according to the level of funds they have raised. The other middle school grade levels will also have an opportunity to contribute on their assigned day (during 8th period) by donating $1 for every 3 basketball shots. Their times are as follows: 5th grade April 11th, 6th grade April 12th, and 8th grade April 13th.

We thank you very much for your support of this very worthwhile cause!
